Seattle

The Seattle Neighborhood

Home to over 700,000 people, Seattle is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest. Sandwiched between Puget Sound (and the Pacific) to the west, and Lake Washington to the east, Seattle is the northernmost major city in the US, located about 100 miles from the Canadian border. It is also a major gateway for trade and travel with East Asia.

Home to Native Americans for over 4,000 years, Seattle was first settled by Europeans in the 1850’s. Today it is home to large communities of  Native, Scandinavian, European American, Asian American and African American people, and boasts a thriving LGBT community that ranks sixth in the United States by population.

Fun fact about Seattle: although it is known as a rainy city, Seattle actually receives fewer inches of rain each year than Houston, Chicago or New York City. It has, on average, 152 sunny days.
