Mercer

The Mercer Neighborhood

Mercer Island is the name of both a city and the island it’s located on. This 13 square mile island, located in Lake Washington between Seattle to the east and Bellevue to the west, is home to 25,000. Mercer Island is an affluent city, and ranked fifth in Washington by income. The City of Mercer Island was incorporated in July 1960.

The island was named for the Mercer family of Seattle; the Mercer brothers were known to row between the island and Seattle to pick berries, hunt, and fish.
